to grow and to learn

this year has been packed full of learning- about who i am as an individual, friend, daughter, sister, employee, supervisor, artist, photographer, Christ-follower, leader, etc. it has been great. Since this blog focus is on photography, I’ll share with you some of my learning in that area.

No one is the best. No one. There is always someone better. How great!

I’m being completely serious. I think it is wonderful that there will always be something to strive toward. I’ve been searching for my own style, my voice, my interpretation of what I see. It is a lot more challenging then you might think. There are so many different ways to express myself that it’s hard to pick just one. Lucky for me, I don’t have to pick just one! Styles always evolve. If you’re style stays the same you get boring and fall behind. Something that has helped me a lot in developing my own style has been looking at and studying the styles of other photographers. The people I follow are photographers who do what they do because they love it and aren’t afraid to try new things and evolve as artists. You should check them out. They are all pretty awesome.

February, so far

February 14 is today! Happy Valentine’s Day!

This year has been so incredible for me and it’s only February! In January I was able to transfer to the Starbucks in the Nichols Hills Plaza in the city and I absolutely love it there. I am able to work with Tevin again which is awesome and all of the other partners are so nice and welcoming. The customers are really fun and I just completely love working in a cafe store, it feels like a coffee shop! Also, as you know, at the beginning of January I applied for an internship with Carl Zoch and Aaron Snow and actually got it! That has been so wonderful. It is such a blessing to be able to learn from those guys. They have so much experience and talent and are so eager to share what they know, I am just blown away by this opportunity. So far I have completed one full week of working with them and have already learned so much! On Tuesday I went to Fine Arts Engraving in OKC with Carl and Aaron and followed them around as they felt different paper weights and looked at all of the samples of business cards and asked questions and by the time we left I think we were all feeling overwhelmed with the amount of choices and decisions that are available. It was a really great experience and I’m glad they let me tag along. After leaving there we went to Sage Cafe which was delightful. If you haven’t been there yet you should go! On Wednesday and Thursday we stayed in the studio and Wednesday was spent working with Aaron to learn his workflow and Thursday was spent with Carl doing the same. It’s so cool to be able to see being the scenes stuff and know that in addition to having a lot of fun and hanging out they have both worked really hard to get to where they are and that they are continuing to work just as hard and maybe even harder to take their businesses into the future. If you still haven’t looked them up, you really should. They are seriously cool, down to earth, relaxed, fun people.

I hope 2010 is treating you well! Enjoy your life and your loves.

Goodnight blog world.
